This is a relatively obscure plant called a Jolla (hoy-ya). Mine is 15+ years old.
It blossoms throughout the year, starting with tiny little pods (clockwise, from upper right),
progressing to waxy, plastic-looking buds and finally exploding little balls of pink flowers,
which look as though they are plastic and not organic. In the first shot, you can see
an older blossom decaying in the background. The complete cycle is a 2-3 weeks.
