I didn't take up an instrument at an early age. But at 15, I started to learn drums. I played in rock bands all through high school and college, a full-time pop rock gig after college, a number of funk bands, and a brief but exciting stint in a hard-core, Mahavishnu-influenced fusion group. In the 80s, I played regularly in a jazz/funk/fusion band called Atmosphere in Buffalo. We werent playing for the money, so we could afford to play for the love of music.
The samples below include a compositon I assembled while learning ProTools. I had one mic, and did it one track at a time, an homage Bobby McFerrins mulit-tracking, a capella style.
The "Live Trio" samples are more recent, from my work in a band called Free Translation, an improvisational trio with Chuck Trocino on guitar and David Powell on bass. The photos are of that band in performance at Atlanta's "eyedrum" gallery.
